Rough Cut Magazine - Audience Feedback

Front Cover

From my audience feedback, I have been praised for the layout of my front cover and how my style model can be easily picked out and identified. The criticism that I received was mainly about the bottom section on my front cover and how it seems empty and the bar code seems to be of an unnecessarily large size to fill in the gaps. They also advised me to have a small circle of some sort in the top right beside the models head to make it look more professional as it is a key convention which I seemed to have missed out when creating my rough cuts. My peers gave me an idea of using a different shape as a bullet point underneath the ‘interviews!’ sub heading as it apparently seemed too much like what you would find in a “gossip mag” rather than a rock/metal magazine. The main image was criticised for being too far over to the left and part of the models face is being covered with the text. Despite these few changes needing to be made, the feedback I got was mostly positive and they particularly liked the model used with the Rock star image I have set used with the tattoos and sunglasses.

Double Page Spread

Out of all 3 which were analysed by my peers, my double page spread was seen as the weakest one and judging by the feedback I received, there are some drastic changes to be made. For example the images used were too similar to the ones used on my front cover and contents page, for my final draft I will have to choose a different outfit for my model to wear to give it some originality. The fact that the fonts used were all too similar was another point given by my peers and that to make it fully successful, I was in need of some different fonts to give my magazine some variation and make it different. Another point made was that the background was far too plain and that I needed something more urban to give it a more rock feel to it. The article length was also one of the issues that was raised as it was seen to be far too short and that I needed some more I depth meaningful questions and also some more interesting and article style answers. The red made the questions un-readable so that will have to be changed as you don’t want the reader to be struggling to read your magazine after all… I will be using a more creative image in my magazine as I feel that it is far too clichéd and something ‘different’ and ‘out of the norm’ is most definitely needed to make my product successful and a joy to read.
